7 Steps to a High ~ Vibing Home Reset

7 Steps to a High ~ Vibing Home Reset

The COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020 caused significant changes to our daily lives, shifting our living needs and home design choices as a result.

With more people working and exercising from home, our living spaces have become multifunctional and all-encompassing constructs. Subsequently, we have had to modify our homes to accommodate these new needs, such as converting storage spaces into workspaces and living rooms into home gyms.

The question now is, how accommodating are our homes to this new normal, and how has it affected our quality of living and living environments?

A New Dawn

With the repercussions of the pandemic lingering, altering market and customer landscapes in its wake, it has catapulted us to take stock of our well-being and behaviours, leaving a chunk of the population searching for contrasting ways to help bring balance into their lives.

With mental health awareness concerns becoming more of a health focus globally and a topic that I sidestepped for many years of my life, struggling to understand my father’s illness after an accident he endured before I was born. The importance of linking our psychological and physical well-being to our living settings has once again risen to the surface, albeit in a new way; leading us to another critical time in history where design movements meet to transcend and assist in regaining some level of balance coupled with finding purposeful resolve needed in these defining times. Design may not save the world, but you have to admit good design sure does make it feel better.

With this in mind, curating High-Vibrational spaces has become more than just a trend.

Finding high vibes or high-vibing solutions has quickly begun characterising itself as a new way of living. With a focus on feel-good factors that enrich and rejuvenate, leaning heavily on self-healing well-being qualities, forms of conscious living have started to play a primary role in the daily lives of many.

But how does High-Vibing Interiors, a principle coined here at LNR, translate within the home? Let’s look deeper into it.

Here are our seven steps to consider when establishing your High-Vibing home reset.

 1. Window Placements are a Big Deal

Do you often feel moody or low in energy for no apparent reason? Never quite enthused about the day ahead, especially in the winter months? When developing or remodelling your home, glass doors, walls and skylights are prime structural attributes you will want to explore. Notice the scale of furniture and its positioning within the space to avoid a break in energy flow. Be mindful of external compositions that you find enticing and play with the exterior visuals presented. Choosing the right window treatment will also maximise light intake and provide and enhance your privacy. If done correctly, this will also save on your cost of energy bills.

2.Think About Colours You Enjoy

If you were a colour which would you be? It is only natural colours that resonate will instantly uplift your mood, re-energising your spirits, evoking a positive internal connection stirring an emotional healing response.

Different hues can transform in situ depending on the light source and finish selected. Interchangeable contrast and depth between tones will become apparent throughout the day. What is the overall ambience you are trying to create? Experimenting with different hues will instantly give the space its voice, so don’t be afraid to embrace it. However, if muted tones are more your thing, you can always dress your home with rich accessories, such as art, decorative ceramics, and punchy soft furnishings.

3. Create the Zone

Not enough space but in need of more room? To maximise sq footage, create different zones that offer pockets of privacy where needed. Rooms that require a multi-purpose function will need extra planning and attention as this can be tricky to do in smaller properties. Sliding glass, pendulum panels and freestanding bookshelves are interesting vertical choices to consider, adding fun visual interest that can assist in conveying your home story.

The importance of dividing your space to meet your lifestyle needs ensures you can freely nest without contending with the notion of lack, which is conflicting energy to have when needing to recharge and relax or work and play. Plants and curtains are simple solutions on offer for both internal/external use. Rugs are also a great way to show horizontal transitions when walking through a space, attaching personality, a comforting piece that helps pull your design together.

4. Reorganise & Declutter

How will you ever gain the clarity you require to fulfil your ambitions if every time you open a desk drawer to reach for your notepad, the contents of it are always spilling out? Do you even need half the stuff you keep in there anyway?

This cluttered appearance can reflect your internal mental state. Free your mind and clear out unnecessary clutter. You may be surprised by just how much space you have readily available. And yes, this does include the content on your phone, laptop, and PC too!

5. Charming Collectables

Embellish your home with sentimental objects to add visual context to enrich the ambience of your haven. A collected home oozes charm like no other. Layering your walls with engaging prints and photographs adds character and history, making great focal points. Objects you admire along with art you connect with will conjure up memories, connecting you to a time, place or vibe that moves you and makes a great conversational point when entertaining guests.

Art in which you compose yourself has proven to promote restorative healing benefits; there are tons of art therapy interventions that support this notion.  An article written by the award-winning, online magazine We Heart explores these benefits.

6. Feel Good Sounds

Your peace is uncompromisable. The acoustics of your home is just as important as anything else. Furniture and soft furnishings have sound-absorbent qualities. Pay attention to the type of materials you choose when refurbishing your home. Insulating airborne noise is a must. Think about double or triple-glazing windows and the type of doors needed to block out sounds from the inside and the outside world. Wind chimes and water features offer a calming, peaceful ambience, keeping you connected to the source of nature while inside your home.

7. Smells That Make You Say Ahh!

Deep cleaning carpets/rugs and sofas will instantly irradicate unpleasant odours that may have clung to the fabric over time. Regularly washing curtains and other soft furnishings will help to demystify your home and neutralise the air. Placing flowers and potpourri in and around the home can also help to purify the air space, leaving a more sweet-smelling fresh scent in the atmosphere. Oil burners, scented candles and diffusers work wonderfully, but who else has heard about the light bulb trick? Better used with Incandescent bulbs. Switch off lights until cold. Add a few drops of your favourite perfume or oils/extract, onto the light bulbs. Once switched on, the heat generated by the bulbs will diffuse scent through your home. It works every time!
